Experience Vancouver’s West End

Our Mission Statement

To champion the business success of its members, by promoting the West End of Vancouver as the vibrant and healthy commercial, retail, residential and entertainment district of our neighbourhood, attracting more people to live, shop, work, and gather.

Who are we?

The Davie Village BIA was created in 1999 under provincial legislation at the request of the business community. It was issued a new 5-year mandate by Vancouver City Council in 2004, and officially expanded its boundaries in April of 2007 to become the West End BIA. If your business is located within the boundaries of the West End BIA, you are eligible to become a member of the West End Business Improvement Association. Close to 800 businesses that own or lease property within the area can apply for membership. On their behalf, the WEBIA is proactive in terms of programmes, the promotion of area interests and attractions, public advocacy on important issues and hands-on services to ensure that the West End remains clean, safe, attractive and hospitable for everyone.

 Membership Driven

The WEBIA is funded by a special municipal levy that is paid by commercial properties in the area, and shared by tenants through their rent. In most cases, the levy amounts to less than 90 cents per square foot for each individual business, an amount that varies according to the assessed value of specific properties.

The word "member" in the daily business of the West End BIA means people, a dedicated team of business owners and employees. Those who have attended meetings and have gone on to become committee members or directors, invariably report that the involvement has been rewarding to their companies and business activity. Knowledge about West End issues and developments is a valuable asset.

Much of our mandate is realized through three committees, comprised of members who volunteer their time and expertise. They are Maintenance and Security; Marketing and Communications; and, Transportation and Urban Policy. These committees are united under a common vision: to ensure that the West End continues to grow, prosper and succeed as a vibrant, positive area. Members actively participate through these committees.

Active members of these committees - many of whom have been involved for years - report that the committee work not only gives them and their business an opportunity to collectively address issues, it is an unparalleled opportunity to be informed and connected with issues, developments and civic officials. Networking among this dynamic team of professionals is yet another bonus.
